Closer Daily

About Closer Daily

Why we built this

Most advice about family relationships asks for more than people have to give. A hard conversation. A long apology. An afternoon set aside to “finally talk it out.” For a lot of families, that’s exactly what’s needed, eventually. But it’s rarely where anyone can start.

Closer Daily starts smaller. Each day, we offer one thoughtful prompt: a question to ask, a message to send, a moment to notice. And when even that feels like too much, there’s a lower-pressure option instead. No streaks. No score. No day you have to make up for. The idea isn’t to push anyone toward a breakthrough. It’s to make it a little easier to stay in the relationship, one small step at a time, on the days you can.

What this is

A daily practice for people who want to be a little closer to a parent, a child, or another family member, and who are looking for a place to start that doesn’t feel like homework.

What this isn’t

Closer Daily is not therapy, counseling, or a substitute for either. We don’t diagnose, treat, or offer clinical advice, and nothing here is written by or reviewed as licensed mental health guidance unless we say so explicitly. Some relationships need more than daily prompts can offer. If that might be true for you, our page on when this isn’t the right resource can help you figure out what to look for instead.

Who this is for

People whose relationships are strained, distant, or just quieter than they’d like, not people in situations involving abuse, active addiction, or ongoing harm. If you’re not sure which describes your situation, we’ve written a short guide to help you think it through before you start anywhere on this site.

A note on what “closer” means here

We don’t assume that more closeness is always the right goal, or that every relationship can or should be repaired. Some distance is a boundary, not a problem. Closer Daily is for people who have decided, on their own terms, that they want to try. It’s not meant to talk anyone into wanting that who doesn’t.
